Meanwhile, he earned Oracle SQL and advanced PL/SQL certifications.Īlexis Galdamez began studying PL/SQL every morning at 4 a.m. The new job and his university schedule didn't jibe, so Galdamez opted to study business management online at ESI School of Management while continuing to work full-time. Galdamez jumped at the chance and completed the work so quickly he was offered a full-time software developer position. "So, I translated each line, learning PL/SQL and how to read English at the same time."įour months later, his company needed a volunteer who could make small changes to a system using PL/SQL. "The highest-quality material was in English, which I couldn’t read at the time," Galdamez says. The system he was documenting was built on PL/SQL, Oracle Database, and Oracle Forms and Reports, so he began studying PL/SQL every morning at 4 a.m. While studying systems engineering at Universidad Centroamericana Jose Simeon Cañas (UCA), he got a job as a technical writer for a local company, Technology Logistics Network. Like most people, Galdamez didn’t jump right in using APEX. So we’re telling a series of stories about these experiences, hoping they’ll help people think about their own tech careers. It’s true of developers, DBAs, and even analysts.
